With their new dental matrix for one side deep caries on molars the company Dr. Walser Dental was the winner in the category “medical engineering”. More than 1,200 companies had applied for the Industry Award 2013.
The by the company itself developed self-adjusting dental matrix convinced the jury of professors, industry experts and academics among other things due to the technological, environmental and economic or social value in use.
Just at one-sided deep caries there is often the problem that the matrix band is too short for the deeper side and the dentist must provisionally manage it by prolonging the band here. He must cut a piece of high-grade steel band to size to prolong the matrix band simulated. This is dropped with the new matrix. It is put over the tooth with only one hand movement within 4 seconds and adapts itself at the tooth automatically. If there is e.g. distally deeper caries, the longer band of the new dental matrix can be turned backwards and placed down. If the longer band is needed on the other side it simply becomes turned mesially.
More than 1,200 companies have applied in 14 categories, from drive & fluid power to suppliers. But also research and development were there. Here for example the Fraunhofer Institute from Karlsruhe was category winner.
